Hi, monojah. I think the links you just got from France.com are their own. I didn't click and check. You can also get to them by clicking on the blue and red France.com at the top of this page. This will take you to the home page. Then, on the right side of your screen the second button is Hostels. Click on that to find the hostels.
On the top left of the Home Page right under the search button is another button marked Hotels. Click on that and do a search for 2 star or small hotels. Some are very reasonable.
We've reserved hotels on this site for years and never had a problem, so I highly recommend them.
Another place to check if you don't find anything here is the Lonely Plant web site. Their forum is called The Thorn Tree and there are lots of backpackers and students who can tell you their experiences. It might be a good place to get information even if you get your reservations here. Good luck.
