I think that one thing that's possible is that ther's a slight delay sometimes between the time you post a message and its display on the forum. But it should really be no more than 3 minutes.
When you get the disappearing category, could you please let us know what shows up in your address bar? We'd like to make the forums feel as friendly as they can, certainly a computer glitch should not make you feel unwelcome.
