- Arcachon and the great dune of Pyla-
The Aquitaine region, south west of France, has a lot to offer to the traveller, before or after a wine tour.
One of the marvels is the Great Dune of PYLA, or PILAT (both spellings are corrects, oddly enough), the tallest sand dune in Europe. Located at the south entrance of the Arcachon inlet, 60 kilometers southwest of Bordeaux, the dune stretches its 60 million cubical meters of fine sand on nearly 2.7 kilometers from south to north, and 500 meters from west to east. Due to its mobility, its height varies constantly, ranging from 100 to 117 meters, and it moves inland on a permanent basis. - Aquitaine- [img_assist|nid=1410|title=Biarritz beach|desc=Picture copyright Sheldon Kralstein|link=none|align=middle|width=400|height=300]It bills itself as "the other south of France", but those who come to Aquitaine will be astounded by the richness and diversity of its geography.
- Prehistoric Sites of Aquitaine-
It all started 400 000 years ago, when Homo Erectus arrived in Perigord, coming from Africa.
The traces of early settlements show his ability to use some technology, like two sides’ flint, or fire, signs of adaptation to the cold environment in the glaciations eras.
Later on, Neandertal took his place; first species originating from Europe, he left numerous remnants of the tools he used or the game he hunted, until he disappeared 30 000years ago. He was the first human ancestor to bury the dead, thus testifying of a spiritual behaviour.- Golf of Moliets-

The Monument
The excavations carried out on the site of Montcaret by Jules Formigé between 1922 and 1939 revealed its wealth. In the 1st and 2nd centuries, a great Gallo-Roman villa was built there. It was transformed in the 4th century: the house was in its prime at that time.
The arrangement of the house is Graeco-Roman.Lodging

Chateau de Cadillac
- Monument
Overlooking the Garonne river and the bastide de Cadillac, the castle of the Dukes of Epernon, a prime example of early 17th century architecture, was an impressive monument in its day, and it rivaled royal properties. Of the richly decorated castle built by the Duke of Epernon (1554-1642), all that remains is the main building with its two wings at right angles, the courtyard and the garden. Inside, there are monumental marble fireplaces with carved figures, painted ceilings from the 17th century and tapestries. This decoration gives a good idea of the splendor of the receptions given in honor of the visits of Henri IV, Louis XIII and Louis XIV.
