Bad Hotel Experience in La Rochelle; France

I friend and I recently stayed at the Hotel La Marine in La Rochelle, France. I have traveled from Timbuktu to Haiti and Japan to Cuba and I have never met a ruder manager or owner anywhere.

thanks for sharing your experience with the hotel. some hotels can offer a bad experience and its good for other travelers to know. hopefully the rest of your trip turned out to be a lot better.

Bad staff at Boisiere Hotel, Levallois Perret Paris, Fr

The hotel is one of the most economic in the area. At the reception they give you an access code for the door, but not forget it, you may pass the night outside. The guy at the desk could look at you and shake his head with the expression in his face saying:"I told you, don't forget the code" And all he has to do is push a button. That's what happened to me in March 2008 !

Bad staffs!

On one particular vacation the maid stole our liquor, medical supplies and baby food. We contacted the owners of the condo we were staying at and they in turn contacted her.. she admitted she stole the items.. I asked her to return the prescription medication as it was for my children. She never returned any of it., and there was one of those digital thermometers in the tote bag. So I lost about 75.00 worth of stuff. This was at a very high priced hotel/condo. And to make this vacation really bad, my son got extremely ill and was hospitalized.

Did this happen in France?

Judging from your screen name, I suspect this may have happened in Las Vegas, Nevada in the USA, not in France. I'm sorry it happened to you but this Forum is for posting about France, not Las Vegas. I'm sure there are many Forums devoted to Las Vegas and it might be helpful for you to post this on one of them . . . and give the name of the hotel so others would be warned.

Bad experience in "My Hotel In France"-Levallois Peret, Paris

As I was staying at another hotel at the same area and I needed to stay one more night in Paris, I walked at the desk of the hotel called “my hotel in France” (the longest English name of every hotel around) and asked (in English) the receptionist for a single night explaining that I had already another hotel but the last day (which was after two days) they could not give me a room because they were full and I had no reservation. He says OK, I pay cash instantly he takes my credit card number, my passport, my ID card and gives me a magnetic card to have it for opening the door. After two days I go there and they say I had no reservation and I had already stayed a night there. After 30 minutes of discussion the manager goes to check “the computer” and results that my magnetic key (which never left my wallet till that moment) opened the door at 11.15. I tried to explain that that night I slept in another hotel; they call the other hotel and get confirmation but still insist. I ask him to check the security camera recordings but he refuses saying me the computer never tells lies. All I had to do was walk away and get around the neighborhood with my wife and four bags for another hotel. I think this is pure fraud. My only explanation is the receptionist of a hotel called for the irony of fate “my hotel in France” doesn’t understand English in the best case scenario; in the worst he probably sold my room twice. I absolutely do not recommend this hotel and I am concerned because they have my credit card number.

It'd be intreresting to know how they were rude with you. Any details you want to share? One of the funniest hotel reviews we have ever read was found on Tripadvisor.

Here it is: "The big problem we had with this hotel was the complete lack of respect shown by the staff. We left for dinner in the Latin Quarter. We returned to the hotel just before 11pm, just to drop off a camera and get a jacket . We intended to venture out again and soak up our last evening in Paris. We walked into the lobby and found the door to our room propped wide open. The night desk manager was inside watching our television (The World Cup) and smoking cigarettes. We were speechless. Our luggage, our possessions were all out in the open. The man told us, "But it is France" referring to the football match and exclaimed "I didn't touch a thing!"

You have to admire the gall of the night receptionist.

Anyone has other funny stories to tell?

We bypassed La Rochelle and stayed in the Hotel Majestic in Chatelaillon-la-Plage just south of La Rochelle. It was a wonderful experience. Smaller towns are often friendlier although it's no guarantee.

I hope the rest of your trip was better. 8^)
