Drive time: Amboise, Loire to Beaune, Burgundy?
Submitted by denisema18 on June 7, 2007 - 5:22am.
We are planning to rent a car for a 10 day trip from Paris to Loire and over to Beaune. Can anyone provide me withan estimated drive time from Amboise to Beaune (and maybe an suggested route)? It appears on the map I have (an avis suggested itinerary), it would be an 8 hour drive straight through. However, there may be a more straightforward route. The Avis route is about 381 miles and has various side trip stops to select towns. I just want to see if we're going to have to book a night somewhere in the middle. We don't want to be rushing around and doing an 8 hour drive to get to the next place. I've already booked a place in Amboise, so I can't really change that part of our itinerary. Thanks for the info in advance! Denise |

Traffic and hotel in Beaune
Hi. I didn't recommend le Cep in Beaune. Someone else did, perhaps france.com.
I recommended Hotel Grillon and I'll stand by my recommendation. Have you looked at their web site and prices? http://www.hotel-grillon.fr/
We love it and have never stayed anyplace else in Beaune. It is beautiful, well located and very reasonably priced. I know nothing about le Cep.
Traffic: Once outside Paris, you will not see huge amounts of traffic. If you are on the Autoroute, you will zip right along at 130 kilometers per hour. If you take National or Department (N or D) routes, you may see a little traffic in towns, but nothing that will slow you appreciably. Paris to Beaune is definitely an okay trip and I certainly wouldn't spend the night between. We usually drive all the way to Strasbourg from Paris in a day and have never had a problem.

Amboise to Beaune
Hi. I just checked the Michelin web site and they came up with several options. It was 3 hours 47 minutes more or less. They left Amboise toward Orleans then to Auxerre and down to Beaune, not the most direct route but probably the fastest.

The above is the Michelin web site and you can do different itineraries there. The Beaune you want is 21200 Beaune with 21200 being the USA equivalent to a ZIP code.
You will get an itinerary, directions and a small map of the area at the web site above.
You probably should invest in a Michelin map for that area. We always keep an up-to-date Michelin France Tourist and Motoring Atlas but that may be overkill for such a limited area. Just get the one covering where you are going to be. The atlas is a fairly large book containing all of France and heavy to pack. A foldout would be fine for your needs.
You can get maps at Borders, Barnes & Noble and even on Amazon.com or order directly from the Michelin web site listed above.

Thanks SalB-
Yes, after I posted this, I went on the michelin site and pretty much got the info I needed. oops! :)
You don't think we should lose a night in Beaune or Paris by adding one in the middle of this drive, do you?
I don't think 4 hours is bad, but that is also non-stop and with no traffic (IS there even traffic?!). my husband is beginning to panic that we'll be wasting our trip away driving all week
I just want to figure this out so I can book the other hotel..
I just booked le Manoir les Minimes in Amboise and want to book le Cep in beaune (actually, thanks to your suggestion and my subsequest findings of rave reviews!).
paris hotels I am beginning to look at for the last leg.
thanks for helping me out in my planning. I will definitely have a couple more posts shortly.
