A map of Paris

Hello, We would like to visit Paris but it will be our most first travel to this city. How could I get a map of Paris? Maybe you could recommend the sites or special tourist companies which can send maps. I'd like to have a usual "paper" map in my hand while traveling. Thanks. Maria mariakosareva@yahoo.com

Great map of Paris

Hi Maria. There is a great little map of Paris. It's a 5 x 7 booklet that fits in purse or pocket and lists every street and alley in Paris. It has a full index and includes maps of the Metro, RER and bus routes with info on how to use them. Major sights like the Eiffel Tower are highlighted. This map is so good Parisians even use it.

It is called "Paris Pratique par Arrondissement" and you can get it at any Paris bookstore or news stand and most stores labeled "Tabac." These stores do sell tobacco products but they also sell bus tickets, papers, light grocery items and are kind of like AMPM or 7-11 stores in the USA if you know what they are.

We have gotten the map booklet at Borders Bookstore in the past and it is available at Amazon.com if you order online. When ours wears out, we pick one up at a Paris news stand. If you want it before you go, you will probably have to order it online.

Tour Guide

You can click on Tours in the blue sidebar on your left here on France.com. I have no idea if they have private guides listed there but it's worth a check.

You also might want to post this request on a forum with more traffic.

Is there a particular reason you feel you need a private guide? Most of us simply take a street map and set off on a journey of discovery. Paris is very easy to negotiate. You can walk to most of the tourist sites and the others are easy to reach using the Metro (subway) system.

Public transportation is inexpensive and easy to use. There are also hop-on hop-off bus tours of all the major sights.

You missed a key ingredient/ TOUR GUIDE

One can't always grab a map, a cup of joe and walk all over a city with a family. Private Guides are wonderful for those families with children, grandparents, etc. Also for those who want a little more attention to detail on their trip.

You can can find private guides to obtain tons of information. Bon Voyage!
