France and the US

Friends again

Although there is no great love fpr Pres. Bush in France, you must remember that only half the voters voted for him. Everyone I have spoken to recently has been greatly concerned about the rioting. Even people who in the past had nothing good to say about France. We care here in America. Let's bury the hatchet and agree to disagree. The world has gone crazy, we must find the answer before a nueclear bomb falls into the wrong hands, and let's not forget biological weapons. We all know by now there were no WMD's in Iraq. There is no particular country to go to war against, that would be too simple. We all must find out what is the underlining problem is and do something! Thank you, I love you France

Of course we'er make up.

The way I see it is that you have two very proud nations that are extremly nationalist. France is ,of course, a very old nation where it's idenity has developed over a thousand years. After all the Holy Roman Empire began in the year one thousand ( I hope I spell the name right) Charmane was by the pope as the emperer. The US looks like an upstart to the europeans and I can see why, we really are the new kids on the block, and yet because we are so powerful We look like we trying to muscle our projects through the UN..I love my country too much to critize her to another country, but our presiden has a low opinion rating and still droping. Maybe someday soon we all can drop our false pride and come together on the things we do agree on. We have more in comm than differences.

How bizarre...

How weird it is that some Americans have "deeply" fallen in love with France (I'm french) and some others got mentally sick: http://www.stuffucanuse.com/swiss/french.htm

I took it with humour but I don't get his purpose... why can the French make you feel love and hatred towards them ??? Should we be proud of that ? What does it mean ??
Please, light my lantern!! (éclairer la lanterne de quelqu'un: to explain someting to someone)

France and America

The relationship between the US and France goes all the way back to the beginning of America. I think that the real problem is that France is too independent for most Americans to swallow. A lot of the problems started all the way back in the '60 s ,France didn't want our bases on their soil. If the French were conspiring with the USSR then the US would have something to worry about. Of course that wasn't the case. America wanted to run the show and France wasn't cooperating. Now all these years later France once again has shown her independence.

W's "Goodwill Tour" of Europe a couple weeks ago....

Bonjour Forum!
I am a newbie to the forums, and I've been having a great time reading your discussions on everything! It sounds like a lively debate, and I'm excited to find some people that are willing to discuss things!

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on W's tour of Europe and his rekindled relationship with Chirac over Syria.

Personally, I am glad that he's started to (although half-heartedly) renew Transatlantic relations. I know he's only doing it for selfish reasons (maybe the fact that he can't conquer the evildoers w/o them??? evildoers = biggest joke ever), any diplomacy is welcomed at this point, in my book.

Any thoughts?

Over the past few years, France has won the reputation as being the leading anti-American voice of the Western world. Of late, news has been trickling out of France which suggests that President Chirac has taken his opposition to the U.S. to a new level. One example includes allowing the pro-Ba'th pro-Saddam group "La Resistance" to operate out of Paris. The group's main goal is to support killing U.S. troops in Iraq.
