Hotel Dieu in Beaune

Hotel Dieu in Beaune

If you plan to visit Burgundy, Beaune is a great base for touring. It's a fairly small town with a beautiful historic center, lots of good restaurants, hotels galore, a train station, campground  and lots to do.

One of the must-see sights is the Hotel Dieu in the historic center. This was actually a working hospital until 1971 but is now a museum. As you enter the courtyard, notice the beautiful colored tile roof. This is typical of Burgundy . . . a Burgundian roof . . . and you'll see this beautiful tiles all over the area.

Right outside the Hotel Dieu rides are offered in a horse and carriage. This is a great way to get your bearings. Ride through town in style and then you can walk directly to whatever interests you.

There is wine tasting and the famous Beaune Wine Market. You can also take day trips all over the region. A couple favorites of ours are Dijon and Chateauneuf, a large city and a small stone village.
