Lorraine

Source of art and land of creation, Lorraine is proud of its unique know-how. Art-Nouveau was born in Nancy under the impetus of Emile Gallé. Place Stanislas an 18th Century masterpiece is enthroned in the heart of this city. The spas of Vittel and Contrexeville will take good care of your body and soul. From the round-topped Vosges mountains to the undulating bitche countryside, nature has more than her due in this region.

Before going to Lorraine, familiarize yourself with this region.

hey... I'm learning français in College... and I've to do a composition in which I supposed that I'm traveling to a francophone country.... and I decided to go to France... but I'm not sure where to go... because first I decided to go to Paris... but I know that most of my classmates are going to choose Paris... so I want to go to another place, what part of France can you recommend me????

Your French paper

The second most visited place in France is probably the D-Day Beaches in Normandy. There is a lot of information on the beaches and the history involved. That would be a fairly easy research project.

Following that, Provence is wildly popular both because it is incredibly beautiful, has the Riviera and warmer winters. The problem with Provence is it is very large so you would have to narrow your topic. You could do a report on the Cathars, a religion that was exterminated brutally and left lots of ruined castles throughout Provence and the Pyrenees. You could do a report on the French Riviera along the southern coast. You could do a report on Perched villages in Provence. If nothing else, you'd have lots of fun looking up all the web sites for one of these.

If you want to do a city, Lyon is "The Second City of France" and very historic and beautiful.

Also, the highest suspension bridge in the world was recently opened near Millau. (http://www.abelard.org/france/viaduct-de-millau.asp) It is pretty amazing.

French Theme Parks would be another and lots of fun. Too many people go to Disney Paris and never see Parc Asterix (http://www.parcasterix.fr/v2/default.asp) or a fun Prehistoric Park in the Pyrenees Mountains (http://www.ariege.com/what_to_do/castlescaves/caves/index.html) or the Puy du Fou walk through history theme park (http://www.puydufou.com/uk/)

The French have fun learning so their theme parks are both fun and educational. The web sites I gave you are in English but look for the little French flag and you will have the French translation which might be useful. There are games on at least two of the web sites.

That should give you a good start finding a subject for your paper. I think you are wise; everyone "does" Paris. Why not be different!

Good luck and have fun.
